Columbia, Missouri
On May 23, 2000, the Columbia Daily Tribune had a 30-column-inch article on their war show. Then, on May 28, a full-page article appeared on their Memorial Day service. Both articles were highly critical of militarism and the American glorification of war.
John Betts, a Veterans For Peace member, was the keynote speaker at their Memorial Day service. He was quoted as saying:
"The meaning of Memorial Day can be found in the 150 million graves filled by the wars of this century, not at our militarized parades and air shows for arrested adolescents."
