Haiti Earthquake: Survivors protest against what they say
is the government's
lack of help

United Nations, New York, 19 February 2010

Watch Video (2:10)

Demonstrations which began with the first rains last week are continuing throughout Port-au-Prince. In the neighborhood of Palace Petit Cazeau, nearly 100 angry survivors from last months earthquake took to the streets to protest against what they say is the governments lack of help.

SOUNDBITE (Creole) Chandeleur, demonstrator:
We are more than 3,000 people living in this area. We have another three camps like that. There is nothing for us around here. Thats why we are demonstrating so that the government gives us something.

[Note: Demonstrations did not merely begin in Haiti with the first rains, during the previous week, as this UN news item states. In reality, when this video was posted by the UN, protests had been occurring on almost daily basis for more than a month. This UN report also fails to state the exact date on which this video was recorded.  This protest is entered here as having happened on February 19 because that is when the video was uploaded to the internet.]
