QWIPTECH

QWIPTECH is a California-based company, but it’s wholly owned by QWIP Systems of Edmonton.

It makes Quantum Well Infrared Photodetectors. These are useful for targeting BMD weapons because they can detect missiles in space, and can even distinguish them from decoys.

Dwight Duston became QWIPTECH’s chief scientist in 2000. He had worked for Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative Organization and its successor, the BMDO.
NRC’s Dr. Liu also joined QWIPTECH in 2000. He was appointed to their “Scientific Advisory Board.”

Liu and other Canadian scientists at NRC and DRDC, had recently began working on QWIPs with the BMDO in the late 1990s.

Since 2001, QWIPTECH has had “an exclusive worldwide license” for BMDO-funded QWIP detectors developed by NASA.
