Within weeks of the start of the Iraq War, Prime Minister
Chrétien was saying
that Canadian forces would be available to train whatever Iraqi military
forces were installed by U.S. occupation forces.
Canada then gave $810 thousand to this very important
training effort.
This was
more than any of
the other 25 countries who contributed!
The U.S. only
contributed $500 thousand to this NATO program.
And, in 2004, a Canadian colonel was the chief of staff in
charge of NATO's entire military-training
mission in Baghdad.
Canadian soldiers who participated in this program can wear this NATO medal.
