Earlier this year, a public opinion poll found that
70% of Canadians thought
that the
“main purpose” of the Afghan mission is peacekeeping.
In reality, this was never a peacekeeping mission.
Not by any stretch of the imagination.
However, it has been a useful illusion for the
government and military to maintain.
Peacekeeping is, afterall, largely how
the Afghan mission
was sold to Canadians.
Now let's look at how we are supposed to picture our troops and their
mission in Afghanistan.
