As weve seen, just last year the Minister of Foreign Affairs made it clear that he supported Canadian corporate involvement in BMD.
Pettigrew said hed be very pleased with such involvement and considered it to be very good.
But would this Ministry have anything to do with helping such involvement?
The answer is a big Yes. This Ministry, which has had three names since the Say a Real No to Star Wars sit-in there in 1985, has a long history of assisting Canadian war industries to export their deadly products. For example, it:
* funds the participation of Canadian companies in foreign arms bazaars
* organises trade missions to help Canadian arms companies to flog their products around the world
* brings together war industry reps with Canadian Trade Commissioners based in our embassies abroad, and
* issues export permits for military goods, although such permits are not required for any military sales to the US.
