The result was hell on earth. In Kabul alone, 50,000
people were killed
between 1992
and 1996.
Rabbani’s government of warlords was so corrupt and
so hatred, that
an
ultra-fundamentalist movement grew up to destroy them. They called
themselves the Taliban.
In 1996, they forced Rabbani’s warlord regime out of
Kabul. Rabbani
and his
fellow warlords fled to northern Afghanistan, they formed the Northern
Alliance, they kept on fighting and they waited for their big chance to
return to power.
