Afghan opium is still being made into the heroin that floods American and European markets.
 
In fact, 92 percent of the world’s opium supply now comes from Afghanistan.
 
Half the country’s farmers are involved.
 
The street value of this heroin is somewhere between 30 and 80 billion dollars, per year.
 
Of that, about $2.3 billion gets to Afghan farmers and smugglers.

That is more than half the country’s national income.
