Ottawa’s Peace tower symbolises a myth that
overshadows our work as peace activists. Like all national myths it shapes
our self image and affects the way others perceive us. Unfortunately, it has
little basis in reality. Although politicians and corporate leaders stand
high on their soap boxes to proudly proclaim Canada as a builder of peace,
the dark and largely hidden reality is Canada’s very deep complicity in the
lucrative business of war.
As peace activists, this our biggest
challenge.
