On the other hand, the term
“defense” is part of a larger metaphorical weapons system,
a verbal tool
used in a battle
to win
and conquer our hearts and minds.
The war planners know that the
biggest threat to their ability to wage offensive wars is not the enemies
who fight them in the field of battle.
Their biggest threat is an
informed public that will not fork over the money and cannon fodder they
need to wage their wars.
So the linguistic or symbolic
shield is something that the warrior puts forward in front on them to
protect them and to hide behind and to cover the reality of what they are
doing and who they really are.
