John Spivak

By Richard Sanders, Editor, Press for Conversion!

Spivak wrote two important articles which exposed the 1930s coup plot against President F.D. Roosevelt. These articles are available as PDF files on the COAT website:

"Wall Street's Fascist Conspiracy: Testimony that the Dickstein MacCormack Committee Suppressed," New Masses, Jan 29, 1935
"Wall Street's Fascist Conspiracy: Morgan Pulls the Strings," New Masses, Feb. 5, 1935

Spivak also wrote numerous other articles for the New Masses to expose Nazi and anti-Semitic movements in America.

In his autobiography, A Man In His Time (1967), Spivak included two chapters on the fascist American plot that he had helped General Butler to expose and thwart three decades earlier. An edited version of Spivak's account is included as a section of Press for Conversion! #53 ("Facing the Corporate Roots of American Fascism") called "The Plot and the Main Players". Spivak's research on the plot has been added to by this issue of Press for Conversion! which reveals many more details about the background of all of the main organizers and financiers of the fascist plot.) (Click here for another excerpt from A Man In His Time, this one dealing with the socio-economic context in which the fascist plot occurred.)

Spivak also authored many other books, including the following: The Medical Trust Unmasked (1929), The Devil’s Brigade: Story of the Hatfield-McCoy Feud (1930), Georgia Nigger (1933), Anti-Semitism Exposed! Plotting America’s Pogroms (1934), America Faces the Barricades: Union and Labor Relations (1935), Europe Under the Terror (1936), Secret Armies (1939), Shrine of the Silver Dollar (1940), Secret Armies: New Techniques of Nazi Warfare (1939), Pattern for American Fascism (1947) and The ‘Save the Country’ Racket (1948).
