Major Defense Acquisition Programs
The
Pentagon’s 2009
Budget Request Summary Justification provides a wishlist for $184 billion
worth of "Major
Weapons Systems." The "highest profile" of these programs, i.e., the
most expensive ones are "designated as Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAP)."
Elbit is one of nine "Secure Canada 2008" exhibitors that are involved in one or more
these top MDAPs. For details, see "The
Role of 'Secure
Canada 2008' Exhibitors in
America's MDAPs."
Major
Areas of Activity
In providing a "brief
description of our main systems and products in major areas of activity," Elbit
lists:
"Weapon
Delivery and Navigation Systems - for controlling weapon delivery and
navigation"
"Pilot Helmet Mounted Systems – for air superiority, target
designation, weapon and sensor slaving and information display."

"In addition, due to the fact that in most cases a large number of aircraft
take part in air engagements, it is known that the longer you stay in the air,
the less the chance of survival. Being able to lock the weapon system,
fire, and egress the area as quickly as possible is therefore of paramount
importance."
http://www.elbitsystems.com/lobmainpage.asp?id=123
"Display and Sight Helmet (DASH) enables pilots to aim their weapons
simply by looking at the target. DASH measures the pilot's Line of Sight (LOS)
relative to the aircraft, and transfers this information to other aircraft
systems.
Aircraft sensors, avionics and weapons are thus enslaved to the target."
