Cognos

Ottawa’s Cognos has, since 2001, provided business intelligence solutions for Boeing, the “lead systems integrator” overseeing the whole corporate program of BMD.

Cognos software handles “all aspects” of Boeing’s “financial and manufacturing operations,” including “cost management,” “financial planning,” “staffing” and “factory management.”

Some will say Cognos isn’t a war industry, and technically maybe it isn’t. But it does ensure that Boeing can smoothly conduct what is probably the world’s biggest and most complex business operation.

During WWII, International Business Machines (IBM) wasn’t technically a war industry either. It just supplied business intelligence and data processing equipment for identifying the millions of victims to be targeted, transported and exterminated.

Without IBM the final solution wasn’t possible, just as Boeing couldn’t do its “missile defense” work without Cognos.
