Walt Kelly’s cartoon possum,
Pogo, summed up the false duality all too well, when he sadly
said:
“We have met the enemy and he is us.”
Although sometimes from the mouths of babes—or comic strip characters—profound truths do emerge, we do not live in a childishly simplistic, us-and-them movie about cowboys and Indians.
Alas, our wild and wonderful world is rarely so clear as in an old cartoon, or an old black and white photograph, like this one...
