Many of my happiest memories with Grandpa
relate to his love of activities well into his later life. I remember
always having games of tennis with him right from the age where I was
first able to hold a racket through to what was, I believe was his final
game in his late 70s when I was around 17. At some point in that time I
managed to get the measure of him, though was always a struggle to deal
with his various spins and tricky shots!
Between that; sailing, whist and chess at
the cottage and table tennis in their basement, sports and games were
always a big part of the time I spent with him. That along with his sharp
sense of humour and logical mind will be missed by me and many others.
