For four decades, this South Korean holding company, with current assets of US$14.6 billion, has produced main battle tanks, armoured troop carriers, self-propelled howitzers, ammunition-supply vehicles, ground-to-air missiles and numerous other weapons used by the armies, navies and air forces of US allies.

Warplane components

In 1995, one of Doosan’s divisions, Mottrol, developed the "[h]ydraulic [pump] system and electro-hydraulic servo valve for UH-60 helicopter[s]." Doosan had originally entered the aerospace business in 1984 when its Infracore division began supplying US weapons-maker General Dynamics with airframe parts for the F-16 fighter/bomber. The US has been transferring UH-60 "Black Hawk" military helicopters and F-16 warplanes to the Israel Air Force for decades. Israel has used these aircraft in numerous missions including the attacks on Lebanon (2006) and Gaza (2008-2009).

Milling hardware

Doosan has also supplied manufacturing hardware to Israel’s Ashot Ashkelon Industries (AAI), a subsidiary of weapons maker, Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI). AAI website says the company uses Doosan-HM800 Horizontal Milling equipment. AAI is a leading manufacturer for Israel’s three government-owned war contractors: Israel Aerospace Industries, Rafael and IMI. (See "State-owned Israeli War Industries.")

AAI’s customers also include Sikorsky, which produced Israel’s UH-60 and CH-53 "Sea Stallion" military helicopters. AAI also supplies parts to Renk (Germany) and Urdan (Israel), which make the transmission systems and ballistic steel materials, respectively, for Israel’s Main Battle Tanks. AAI is itself a leading manufacturer of gear-based and drive-train products for tanks, armoured troop carriers and other army vehicles. It also makes tungsten-based, armour-piercing penetrators and fragmentation parts for anti-tank ammunition.

Building the Wall and Checkpoints

Doosan is also deeply complicit in Israel’s military occupation of Palestine through its subsidiary, Bobcat. The Bobcat Company, being a business of Doosan Infracore International, a US-based subsidiary of Doosan Infracore, is part of the Doosan Corp. empire. It manufactures construction equipment that has been used to build Israel’s separation wall as well as various checkpoints in the occupied territories. Doosan’s construction machinery is almost exclusively powered by engines made by Kubota Corp. (See Kubota in table "CPP Investments.")

The "Who Profits from the occupation" website reveals that Bobcat’s sole representative in Israel is Emcol. This Israeli company supplies construction tools and equipment used to build settlement infrastructure in the West Bank, including the segregated roads that are reserved for Israeli use only and cannot be travelled on by Palestinians.

COAT research (published in Issues 66 and 67 of Press for Conversion!) exposes that in 2011 the CPP owned about $1.5 billion worth of shares in 68 corporations supplying Israel with military, police, surveillance and prison-related products.
